The photos above were captured by my beautiful friend and photographer Debbie Brown Studios. This was our first official family photo session. Oopsie. Pretty sad considering I'm a photographer (don't worry, many other photos were taken along the way!) But often times this is the reality of being a photographer, you get really good at being behind the camera but you forget to get in front of it sometimes. Having these photos taken this year is just one of the many reasons I say "Cheers!" to 2017 :)
We are 30 days deep into 2018
Can you believe January is already over? I figured this is as good a time as any to reflect and say "cheers!" to 2017. You were such a gift to me! A surprise in many ways. You provided many an exhausting and delightful moments with my little rambunctious boys. You, 2017, had me a little nervous at the very beginning because truth be told bookings were a little light. I quickly turned my frown upside down and said, "girl if you want things to change, you need to BE the change." The only way for things to be different is if you chose to alter something. I hunkered down and got to work on my new website, a website that I felt did a better job of expressing who I am. There are A LOT of photographers out there who take gorgeous photos, but what really matters is that you feel a connection with the person who's behind the lens as well as love their style. I'm proud of my new website that launched in April of 2017. It was a true labor of love. Choosing photos, just the right ones, is like trying to use chopsticks to catch a fly. Painfully hard. I have been doing this photography gig for about 15 years now, so to say I have a few pictures to choose from is a bit of an understatement. (insert crossed-eyes. I have SO many!!) Oh and then there is writing clever things about oneself, that's always a joy. Maybe some find it to be so, but I struggle with finding ways to fully express who I am on paper/computer screen. I feel much more comfortable in person. Then there was embracing Instagram. I started out as a film photographer, and while the internet was prevalent, Instagram, FB, etc. were not the main hubs for connecting with people. Yep, I just aged myself a bit. ;) I'm learning how to blend both worlds, to adore the past and keep portions of her close while giving a big hug to the present and how quickly we all get to meet and get to know each other. So don't forget to follow me on Instagram and Facebook (insert shameless marketing plug :) I'm thankful that this year brought me a greater understanding of how important it is to connect on all avenues...in person (will always be my fav), on the phone, via e-mail, social media, through friends and family, past client recommendations, and so on.
If I let myself I could go on and on about what 2017 brought, what it invited into my life, what I loved most, what it made my cry about, what new people were introduced into my life that I now don't know if I can live without, etc. It was a good year!!! I have chosen some of my favorite photos from the year gone by. Again, I preface how hard it is to choose (yes I would like some cheese with my whine please).....so there will be no organized flow, they are just some of the ones that make me smile and give thanks that I get to do what I love. What I'm passionate about. Enjoy!
