I met up with Courtney and Ben on October 1st last year for an engagement session out at Stanley Lake in Stanley, Idaho.
These two down-to-earth, outdoorsy, adventure-seeking, dog-loving people contacted me in early fall to ask about doing an engagement session, and I was more than happy to help out.
Ben had popped the big question up in one of their favorite locations in Stanley, but at the time, the air was filled with smoke from fires up north—not exactly the picturesque backdrop you’d hope for during a proposal! So, they wanted to head back up to Stanley to capture its natural beauty during this session.
Of course, even that was threatened by Mother Nature again when it came time for the session. The weather gave us a run for our money, and we headed up with the promise of lots of cloud cover and predicted rain and snow. And yet it was absolutely worth it to brave the stormy weather! If we had given up on our attempt because of the fear that we couldn’t see the tippy top of the majestic mountains, we would have missed rainbows of hope, happy hound dogs running in the rain, and the hilarious moment when a bunch of cows made an entrance in the background of our shot to drop off a cow pie present.
Even in the middle of a storm, the overall majesty that is this part of Idaho was well-worth the drive. Add to that the creative details that the storm brought with it, and I seriously believe this was the best possible session.
Courtney & Ben, you two are such sweethearts. I can’t wait to be part of your wedding celebration in June! Congratulations, both of you.
