Maija Karin Photography bio picture
  • Welcome to my PASSION!!

I looked up passion in the dictionary and here are a few words to describe it....powerful, compelling, joy, stength, warmth, dedication, extravagant fondness (just to name a few).  I am so blessed to have these words describe my JOB!  I know there are very few people who can actually say they LOVE their job.  But I can!!! The world provides us with so many beautiful places and moments and I get the pleasure to capture them.

I hope you like what you see here and come back again and again to see what's new!

APRYL + CHRIS 9/24/11 ~ IDAHO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Chris and Apryl were married on the most gorgeous day up in McCall, ID at the Shore Lodge on the lake.  I was so excited to go up there, because while I have been to McCall a few times before, I have never actually shot at the Shore Lodge, which truly is a stunning place!!!  And to top off the location, Chris and Apryl are AMAZING!!!  I think Apryl was smiling ALL day, no joke, about the only time she wasn’t smiling I had either told her to not smile for a photo (which almost never happens, but sometimes it’s called for) or she was crying tears of joy.  You will see what I’m talking about when you look through the photos.  Chris and his crew of guys were a blast to work with and were up for just about anything (i.e. doing the reservoir dogs walk several times). I had so much fun being a part of their day!!!

Well, once again, I am ridiculously behind on my blog. UHG. I really think it’s time to maybe consider getting a little help around here.:)I am a one woman show here at Maija Karin Photography.  And I have been very blessed to be busy almost to the point of not being able to handle it all myself.  So to all of my couples (and those of you who are kind enough to visit my blog on a regular basis…Thank you!), I want to extend my deepest apologies for not being more “on my game” when it comes to my blog.  Your patience is appreciated beyond words.:)

As always, one of my toughest jobs is choosing photos to put up on my blog.  There are always so many I want to post for different reasons.  Whether there is a certain emotion I want to show, or a great “in the moment” shot, or just a cool image in general….I find myself spending way to many hours (yep, that’s right, hours!!!) fine combing my weddings.  Something else I could work on a little…time management. There is always room for growth, right?!!

The following is a random selection, really in no particular order.

Thank you again to Chris and Apryl for trusting me to capture the memories of this special day! :)  It was a blessing to experience your joy with you.

The photos look great! We can’t wait to see all of them. You did a fantastic job and it was a pleasure working with you!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I love these pictures! I’m so excited to see what you do with our wedding! :)

TROY + LISA 9/23/11 ~ CHELAN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

So many beautiful things about this day…..starting with the bride and groom.;)  Lisa was stunning and Troy was very handsome in his light colored suit.  I loved all their little touches and details that made the day special and gorgeous.  They got married at the amazing Karma Vineyard in Chelan, WA!!!  Love this place.  Not only do I love wine, but you can’t get much better than views of Lake Chelan, sweet lines of vines, and an incredible stone cave where they keep the wine barrels.  Makes me smile.:)

I had a hard time (once again) choosing photos to post on my blog.  So many to choose from. I also am playing around with some new boarders that are kind of fun.  Enjoy!

Congrats to Troy and Lisa!

Fantastic photos Maija!! It was wonderful to work with you again!

ANNA MARIE + ROBERT 9/10/11 ~ SPOKANE PHOTOGRAPHER

I hold this post a little bit closer to my heart than most because I had the great pleasure and honor and joy of capturing my sweet cousin Anna Marie’s wedding!  When she asked me to photographer her wedding I was over the moon excited.  She actually originally asked me when she was at my own wedding back in July 2009. When I was giving her a hug, she said “when I get married I want YOU to do my photos”…and I said “ABSOLUTELY!!!”

Every wedding is very special for me in it’s own way, but it was truly a blessing to be a part of her and Bobby’s big day!  They were married at the FANTASTIC Fox Theater in Spokane, WA.  What a venue!  Totally restored over the past couple years and every where you looked your eyes had a feast of color and texture and design.  Very cool.  I also love the area right downtown Spokane, where we were able to get some great shots around in the alley’s and streets.  So much fun!!!!:)

UGH! There are so many photos that I want to post from there wedding, but I’m going to have to reign myself in. So hard to choose. Hmmmmm. For now it’s going to have to stay as a smaller, sneak peek of their wedding.

Love you Anna-Marie!! And congrats to you and Bobby, I wish you two nothing but the best and many blessings in your journey together.:)

Amazing! Fantastic! Breathless! Can’t wait to see them all. You are truly amazing! Thank you for being there and capturing our big day! More words and thank you’s to come!!!!

Maija ROCKS! Look at the contrast between the theater and the elegant wedding. Maija, you captured the character and love between these two special people. Amazing!!

KIND WORDS ~ WASHINGTON/IDAHO PHOTOGRAPHER

Pinch. Ouch. Pinch. Ouch. Pinch. Ouch.

Sometimes I repeat this several times before I realize, hey, this really is my life!! :)  I can’t begin to express how blessed I feel with not only my life as a whole, but in my photography business.  There are VERY few people who can actually say that they get paid to do what they LOVE to do….and I am one of those few.  Seriously, you pick up just about any “self help” book out there and they tell you to search for something that you looooooooooooove to do and then make money at that.  Well, I have done that.  But I give so much glory to God for giving me this talent so that I can bless others with it.  It brings joy to my heart, smiles to my face, and tears to my eyes.  I get to document people’s lives, their precious moments which are fleeting but yet they make life….LIFE!

I wanted to share with all of you one of the other joys in my job. Besides being able to capture the moments, one of the best things….if not most likely the best thing, is hearing back from my couple’s and/or families that they ABSOLUTELY LOVE their photos.  That’s what makes me want to pick up the camera again and again and again.  If I could just live on happiness alone (which would be awesome!) I would, because the joy I get from the kind words that come my way is SO MUCH better than getting paid in dollar bills. :)

I have 2 to share today.  First is from a couple I photographed back in February of this year.  Claire and Dan!!!  They are beyond awesome and you can view their full post here:

They both wrote me separate testimonials, which is even more amazing….because just a couple lines makes me jump for joy.  Once again….I am blessed!!!

CLAIRE + DAN

FROM CLAIRE:

“After an exhausting process of reviewing well over 50 wedding photographers portfolios, my husband and I finally found Maija. We were instantly struck by her gorgeous, honest and piercing photos. The couples she photographed seemed at ease, but also looked absolutely cover-of-Vogue stunning. Maija has that untrainable knack for capturing a person in their best, expressive moment. She is pure talent. And totally professional and delightful to work with, too! She had no problem at all shooting our large wedding party of 24 people!. Our pictures far exceeded even our picky expectations. Her pictures are fully conceived creations without ever looking contrived or cliche. Hire her, you will be thrilled!”

FROM DAN:

“More than the quality of the photos, I appreciated Maija’s ability to step in exactly when we needed her. She got all of the shots we were hoping for even when we didn’t realize she was there. when she saw something that needed to happen she was professional and always efficient. Maija was such a pleasure to work with– If you have to spend your wedding day with anyone other than your future spouse, we can’t recommend Maija enough. Looking forward to working with her again!”

I also was very honored to receive a sweet testimonial from a couple that I photographed not too long ago on August 6, 2011!  ALYSSA + EVAN!!  They actually booked me 18 months before their wedding!  So when I received these kind words….like I said, I was honored.:)

You can view their other post on my blog at the following link:

FROM ALYSSA + EVAN

“I’ll just get straight into it: Maija is *amazing* at what she does. Some photographers are very good at setting up the artsy, serious shots, and some are great at posed photos. Maija can do all of this (we loved the artsy, serious, and posed shots), but she’s incredibly adept at something much more important: capturing the joy in the moments. When I look back at my pictures many years in the future, I will admire Maija’s artistry, but more than that I will get caught up again in the euphoria that I felt all day. Maija is exactly the person you want taking your pictures – she lets the moments happen naturally, helps create them when you’re tired, and is a dream to work with before, during, and after the wedding. Thanks, Maija!”

Thank you to ALL my wonderful couple’s for trusting me to capture one of the happiest and most special days you will ever experience in your life!  I am honored and humbled.  And a special thank you to Claire, Dan, Alyssa and Evan for sending over your kind words!! You guys ROCK!:)

SUSAN + JASON 9/3/11~ Mountain Springs Lodge

Susan and Jason had a small, sweet, country style wedding….cowboy boots and all.:)  It was casual yet elegant.

Mountain Springs Lodge ALWAYS delivers when it comes to providing a beautiful backdrop of mountains and a country feel.  I say Susan and Jason chose the perfect place to start their *forever* together.  I so enjoyed being a part of their special day!  They were truly a delight to work with ….although I had to earn my money trying to make Jason smile for the pictures (sorry Jason, I had to rat you out:))

No, but really, all joking aside, it really was a blessing to be there because I got a chance to capture their true love and passion for each other, which is one of the many reasons I LOVE BEING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER!!

Thank you Susan and Jason for inviting me to be a part of the good times on your special day.  Congrats!!!
